The device automatically generates a comprehensive complete blood count and determines, among other things, the number, size, and distribution of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

In addition, the system analyzes reticulocytes (young red blood cells), thereby providing important information about the activity of blood formation in the bone marrow.

A particular advantage of the ADVIA 120 is its differentiated analysis of white blood cells.

Through modern optical measurement methods, laser light scattering, and cell-specific staining techniques, different leukocyte populations can be reliably distinguished.

Abnormal or immature cell populations are detected and marked accordingly, so that further microscopic examination can be performed if required.

The analysis of red blood cells also goes far beyond a conventional blood count.

In addition to cell count, cell size, hemoglobin content, cell volume, and other hematological parameters are determined, which allows, for example, different forms of anemia or changes in blood formation to be better assessed.

Due to the available multispecies software, the system is not only suitable for human medicine, but – depending on the software configuration – can also be used in veterinary and experimental research institutions.
